Become a digital nomad in Portugal
Thousands of people have relocated to Portugal for it’s stunning scenery and idyllic work/life balance. So many of these are of course, digital nomads. Portugal’s digital nomad visa has achieved a reputation as one of Europe’s top visas for nomads due to what it has to offer.
There are a couple of options for becoming a digital nomad in Portugal; either applying for a short stay visa for up to one year, or applying for a residency permit which can be renewed for up to five years.
As a digital nomad in Portugal, you can benefit from the Non-Habitual Residency program – otherwise known as the NHR. With this, you won’t have any tax to pay on foreign income, and if you register as a freelancer in Portugal, you’ll only pay 20% tax on income earned in Portugal (compared to the standard 48%) and won’t have to pay social security for the first 12-months.
Don’t forget – you’ll have to spend a minimum of 183-days in Portugal to keep hold of your visa.
