Who is eligible for the E5 Visa?
The Sportsperson Visa is designed for amateur athletes who are non-EU residents seeking the opportunity to live and work in Portugal. To qualify, applicants must meet eligibility requirements, including:
- Proof of your active involvement in a recognised sports profession or organisation
- Evidence of a valid sponsorship or affiliation with a sports club in Portugal
- Compliance with Portuguese legal and residency requirements

Application process for an E5 Sportsperson Visa
Gather your documents
Work with our team to ensure you have everything you need, ahead of time. This would include:
- Proof of your sports qualifications, training & participation
- Sponsorship agreement/contract with a Portuguese sports organisation
- Valid passport and qualifying documents
Submission
When we’re confident all your documents are ready, we will submit your application for the E5 Visa through the Portuguese immigration services. It can take a minimum of 6 months to apply, gather information, submit and await the go ahead of your visa – in some cases it can be quicker, but in most cases it could be 6-months or longer. However, our team would continue to check on the status of your application and keep you updated every step of the way.
