Residence Permit for EU Nationals: Cyprus Yellow Slip

Make your move to Cyprus smoother with a Yellow Slip

What is a Cyprus Yellow Slip?

The Cyprus Yellow Slip (also known as the Registration Permit for EU Nationals) is an essential document for EU/EEA persons living in Cyprus for more than three months.

It formalises your residency in the country, helping you access benefits and services such as healthcare and employment.

Whether you’re relocating for work, retirement, or a lifestyle change, the Cyprus Yellow Slip is your key to a seamless experience.

Why do you need a Residence Permit for Cyprus?

As an EU/EEA national, you have the legal right to live and work in Cyprus without a visa. However – after three months of residency, you are required by law to obtain a Cyprus Yellow Slip from the Civil Registry and Migration Department. Why? To enable you to continue having the right to live and work in the country.

This document verifies your status as a resident in Cyprus and allows you to stay for up to five years. After that period, you can apply for permanent residency or citizenship if desired.

Any family members of EU citizens, or non-EU family members accompanying an EU citizen, will also need a Yellow Slip to reside in Cyprus.

How to get started with the Cyprus Yellow Slip application?

Choose your application type

Depending on whether you’re applying alone or with your family members, EU nationals will need to complete the relevant application for. The application forms are as follows:

MEU1 - for EU Citizens & EU Family Members

The MEU1 application form is intended for EU/EEA and Swiss citizens, as well as their family members who are also EU/EEA or Swiss citizens, seeking to formalise their residency in Cyprus.

Once obtained, there is no expiry date - the Yellow Slip is valid indefinitely. It is typically issued within a week.

MEU2 - for Non-EU Family Members

The MEU2 form is designed for non-EU/EEA family members, seeking residency in Cyprus. These applications can take up to 6-months to process, by the Civil Registry & Migration Department. Once obtained, the Yellow Slip will be valid for five years and can be renewed. Provided holders travel with the Receipt of Submission, travelling outside Cyprus is permitted.

MEU3 - for Permanent Residence

The MEU3 is for EU/EEA citizens (& family members) to obtain a permanent residency, provided they have lived in Cyprus continuously for five years. It takes roughly 6-months to process the application; and once obtained will be valid indefinitely - however, if holders have been absent from Cyprus for more than 6-months within 12-months may find their status is affected.
