As one of the most popular destinations in Europe, Portugal welcomes approximately 3 million tourists per year; making it an ideal location to reside in if you’re looking to move abroad. However, if you’re looking to relocate to Portugal permanently and you have family already living there, you may have considered applying for a family visa in order to join your relatives in Portugal permanently and get Portuguese residency status. But what does this mean? Who can apply? How much does it cost? And how long will it take? In this article, we aim to answer all of these questions and more.
Who is Eligible to Receive a Family Visa?
If you are a non-EU citizen who wishes to join family in Portugal, you may be eligible for a Portuguese spouse visa or family visa. The requirements for each type of visa vary depending on your family connection. For example, if you are married to a Portuguese citizen, you will need to provide proof of marriage and show that you have enough income to support yourself and your dependents.
If you are the parent of a Portuguese citizen, you will need to provide proof of parenthood and show that you have enough income to support yourself and your dependents. The process of applying for a family visa can be complex; so it is important to consult with an experienced immigration attorney before beginning the application process.
What are the requirements?
To be eligible for a Portuguese spouse visa, you must:
- be married to a Portuguese citizen

The process of applying for a family visa is similar to applying for a spouse visa.
